Bird Feature - Dark Eyed Junko
It is almost time, for the return of the Dark Eyed Junko. Bird migration season is slowing down, and Michigan's wintering birds are about to return. The Dark Eyed Junko has been a very cool bird to photograph over the years. They almost seem to enjoy to attention. When the mid west starts to see these birds accumulate at their back yard bird feeders, we all know... winter is here. The Junco nests are a little strange and unique, it is in the ground. Usually with coverings over the top. The male and female take a part in raising their own. These little birds usually have 1 to 3 broods of birds a year depending on the region they are in. When it comes to migrating the many estimated 260 million Junko's, they migrate in packs mainly separating male and female and of course they have a complex social hierarch. Because why not. If you see any of these amazing birds during the winter months, stop and enjoy them quietly. They have some small interesting calls.

Cheers.
